India recorded over 600 fresh COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours — highest in a single day since coronavirus outbreak in the country. Fresh cases were reported from Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country stood at 2,902.

"If we look at cases related to Tableeghi Jamaat, in the last two days around 647 confirmed cases related to it have been found in 14 states — Andaman and Nicobar, Assam, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh," said Lav Aggarwal, joint secretary, health ministry.
Delhi's Nizammudin area emerged as the hotspot of COVID-19 in India. Around 650 people who had attended conference at Delhi's Nizamuddin, tested positive in 14 states in the last two days, the health ministry said.
Maharashtra remained the worst affected state by coronavirus outbreak in the country. Mumbai has so far confirmed over 200 COVID-19 cases. At least 88 people tested positive for coronavirus in the state on Friday. Maharashtra reported three more deaths, bringing the death toll in the state to 19. Maharashtra has so far recorded highest number fatalities due to COVID-19 in India.
Tamil Nadu reported 102 coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the total count in the state over 400. 100 of them were linked to the Delhi's Nizammudin conference. This was the third consecutive day of huge rise in the number of cases being reported from the state. Tamil Nadu added at least 75 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Over 100 people in Tamil Nadu tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.
Andhra Pradesh confirmed 29 new cases in last 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus patients in Andhra Pradesh was at 161, according the ministry of health and family welfare. On Friday, Andhra Pradesh reported its first death due to the novel coronarvirus in the state. A 55-year-old man, who had a medical history of diabetes and heart disease, had died, said Arja Srikanth, state nodal officer.
